A memory shared from Iris
We love Oklahoma & our family has lived here since August of 1975, although Iris was born and raised in Poteau. We have been blessed with two plentiful peach trees and canned a lot of peaches in that time. 2019 & 2020 were a different story. Les always seems to know exactly when the peaches will be ready and so does a little raccoon family. One night the raccoons got every last peach off the tree and even cleaned the ground. It was very upsetting to not have even one to eat.
This reminded me of when we lived up North in Buffalo Center, Iowa. We farmed up there for almost 22 years (which we loved) and raised our kids. Our 11 year old son, Todd, came home from the neighbor’s farm, proud as punch with two baby raccoons in a five gallon pail. Yes, we let him keep them. They were his constant companions, following him everywhere and anywhere – to the creek, in the corn fields and even to the top of many trees and buildings. Todd would come home, carrying them as they were too tired to walk.
We had invited our pastor and his family over for supper one night and Todd asked to show his raccoons to them. They escaped in the house. They were on and into everything, even attempting to climb the window coverings. We got them back into their pin quickly but it was so embarrassing.
On a rare day off, we decided to go fishing at a small lake near our home. The minnows had just hatched and we grabbed a bucket and scooped up hundreds, and set the bucket aside for bait. To our dismay, the little raccoons thought those minnows were just for them, and sat on the sides of the bucket, reaching in and eating them one by one. It was awfully cute but also aggravating.
When we were away from home, our nephew was left in charge of the raccoons. They were kept in a lovely home, with a tree limb inside for climbing. He forgot to lock the door and they took off back to the wild, taking up residence and growing by the creek. After church one Sunday we were having coffee with friends and decided they would come to our home the next morning to prepare the corn for the freezers. There was a lot of it and it was yummy! When we checked on it early Monday morning, every last ear was gone, not a kernel in the lot! I had to call our friends to explain that the raccoons had thrown a party, and invited guests of their own. This is a good reminder as we move forward in this season, that God loves and provides for all His Creation, great and small.
Are you truly saved?
Every person who has entered the human race will have to answer yes or no to this question. It is mutually understood that they must be old enough to understand. So then, the answer will have to come from scripture and the individual. What have you done with Paul’s Gospel of 1 Corinthians 15: 1 – 4? Remember Peter said to repent and be baptized, through progressive revelation, Paul does not. So, today the only pure gospel for salvation is 1 Corinthians 15: 1- 4!!!! That is why Satan keeps the multitudes out of Paul’s epistles. – Les
Summarized from Book #33
“We’re not under Law, but rather Grace.” That of course is a statement that came straight from the lips of the apostle Paul, but what does it really mean? Until he shared those words, that concept wasn’t understood. Even Peter and the 11, for the most part, had no comprehension of this great transition. God would move beyond the Covenant promises and all that was attached to that economy, and go out to the whole wide world, to the black and white, rich and poor, East and West, Jew and Gentile with this tremendous Gospel of the Grace of God that had been revealed to the apostle Paul from the ascended Lord in glory.
Romans 3:19 “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law” (in other words the Ten Commandments were directly given to the Nation of Israel. But since it is the Law of the Sovereign Creator God, how far does the influence of that Law go? To the ends of the earth! Just look at what the rest of the verse says), “that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.” Romans 3:20a “Therefore by the deeds of the law (in other words by Law-keeping, by works) there shall no flesh (Jew or Gentile) be justified in his sight for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
You know, many religious people think by keeping the law, by keeping the commandments, that they are making brownie points and someday God will welcome them in by their own merit. It’s not going to work that way. The Law wasn’t given for that reason. The Law had one function and that was to show mankind how sinful we really are. Every human being has been a lawbreaker and is a sinner by nature. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” So, where does that leave us? Are we a people without hope? No!
Romans 3:24-26 “Being justified freely (without a cause) by his grace (His unmerited favor poured out on us) through the redemption (or the buying back process) that is in Christ Jesus: 25. Whom God (this same Christ Jesus) hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, (remember the blood was something very special in God’s sight because in the blood is the life.) to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26. To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness; (the righteousness of Christ) that he (Christ) might be just, and the justifier of him which (repents and is baptized? NO WAY, but) believeth in Jesus.” Romans 3:27 “Where is boasting then? (who can brag?) It is excluded. (Why? Because the law of faith excludes it as you see in the remains of the verse.) By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.”
And the law of faith is? Believe the Gospel for your salvation. And what is that Gospel? I Corinthians 15:1-4 “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
Thank you for your continued support! Les & Iris are doing well, but at 93, Les has decided to be fully retired. If you have questions, the office staff will try to answer but Les will no longer answer them all personally. He would still love to read your letters, if you wish to write. As Les has always said, the ministry will go on, even in his absence. The ministry is very active, materials are all still available for purchase, and the program will continue as long as we are financially able. Over the years, people have been free to “stop by anytime”, but that is no longer the case. After 30 years of this policy, we must make the health and safety of Les and Iris our top priority and would appreciate your cooperation and continue prayers.
Due to another increase in postage, we won’t be offering a special at this time and will most likely be limited to one special yearly going forward. We want to help our customers save money, and a couple of ways we have done that is by not raising the costs of material for 25 years, and by making everything available for free online.
We are certain most ION viewers are aware that “Through the Bible” is no longer airing on ION Plus, and that ION National has repositioned the program two hours earlier. This was a result of the network being sold and not in any way our decision. We have added some new programming and will be picking up more in the future. Mostly we will be looking for antenna TV networks because people who have satellite, cable, or streaming via Internet have other choices. Please be patient and pray with us as we search for and add more networks to broadcast the program.
