Paper is still difficult to come by and we are trying to conserve as much as possible so we can continue to print our books. Over 95 thousand people subscribe to the newsletter and the majority naturally wants to know about Les and Iris. Les turned 95 on June 6th and he and Iris celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary on the 21st. As with most people their age, Les and Iris live with some pain and limited mobility. Yet, they feel extremely blessed and are so very thankful for your prayers.
On the subject of the paper shortage, if any of our friends who support the ministry do not need a receipt for each donation, please let us know. We can even send you extra envelopes if it would be helpful. Not only would it conserve paper, but it would also save on the ever-increasing postage costs. We understand this option is not for everyone and we are happy to continue to send the receipts if it better suits your needs. As always, we appreciate you!!
Like many viewers, we were disappointed recently when News Nation (formerly WGN America) decided to change their format and no longer carry “Through the Bible.” We have since added Get TV which airs on antenna, satellite, and some cable networks. Get TV airs Monday – Friday at 8 am ET, check your local listings for more details. This network actually reaches more households than News Nation. In other words, the ministry continues to grow!!
Those who have studied with Les for any length of time have heard him say that you don’t have to agree with him on every Biblical topic. Many people like to debate opposing interpretations, but Les has tried to steer clear of that. Not because he could not scripturally defend his teachings, but because he doesn’t feel it edifies the Body of Christ. His calling was to get people into their Bible and decide for themselves, while paying attention to who is speaking, being spoken to and the situation. In other words … context is key! However, there are some topics that leave no wiggle room. In fact, Les teaches there are Three Absolutes of scripture. Along with the Gospel of I Corinthians 15:1-4, these absolutes are important to remember when sharing Biblical truths.
1. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
2. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin. Hebrews 9:22
3. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6
Although Les taught on the three parts of the Godhead several times over the course of his teaching, the Trinity remains a subject of much controversy and confusion. From transcript Book #25, Les said in part, “The term “Trinity” is not found in scripture but is referenced many times, here are a few examples:
Matthew 3:16-17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, ‘This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.’
At His baptism you have all three persons of the Trinity there at one time. Now here in this verse we have the apostle Paul making reference also to the three Persons of the Godhead in a pure unadulterated statement.
Now look at II Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, (The father is implied) and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
Now it’s interesting that, normally when we speak of the Trinity, out of the habit we put them in the order of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. But when you look at this verse, there is something different. Paul changes the order of the three. Paul puts Christ first rather than the Father. Not that there is any change in the way the Trinity operates. Never. You’ve all heard me teach that there is no such thing as God the Father having power over God the Son, and over the Spirit or vice versa. They are all three co-equal. They are all three members of the Godhead.
Below are a few more scriptures that refer to either the Trinity or Christ being divine.
Mark 1:9-11 and Luke 3:21-22 both give their own accounts of the baptism of Jesus in which all three parts of the Godhead are either seen or heard.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
John 14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
A memory shared from Iris …
After Les got out of the service, we stayed with his parents for a little while. His mother was a fabulous housekeeper, keeping everything spotless, and in 1953 painted the kitchen a bright white and put up beautiful new curtains. It was so lovely!
I had a little garden and since she was my mother-in-law, I wanted to impress her. I decided to show her one of my favorite recipes for wilted lettuce. That recipe starts with bacon grease, but I had never cooked on an electric stove and had no idea how to adjust the heat. WOW! My pan immediately went up in flames! I grabbed the pan and threw it in the sink and the fire spread up into the curtains and thick black smoke filled the kitchen. The pristine white kitchen and all the appliances covered in soot. My mother-in-law came in grabbed the pan and threw it out the door. I felt like I had completely ruined her kitchen and needless to say, she was not impressed.
